Painmaster UK FAQs

Micro Current Therapy is different from TENS. While both are electro-therapy devices, they use different levels of current and provide different types of relief. Painmaster Micro Current Therapy doesn’t just block pain—it may help reduce inflammation from the underlying condition. This makes it better for long-term pain management rather than short-term relief. The current is so low that users cannot feel it.

TENS machines tend to work well in blocking pain signals, and therefore can be good at helping with pain in the short term. However, TENS doesn’t work at the cellular level and does not treat the root cause of the pain.

No. The microcurrent produced by the Painmaster patches is very low. Therefore, most people do not feel anything when they put the patches on.

Micro Current Therapy works slowly because it uses tiny electrical currents at the cell level. Patience is important for good results. Some people feel a difference in a few hours, while others may need a few days of treatment to see if it helps. You can find more about how Painmaster MCT patches work here.

Important: Not every pain treatment will work for everybody or for all pain types. A trial will show if Painmaster is right for you. If your pain continues, we recommend that you see a doctor.

We recommend wearing the unit for 3-5 days at a time to prevent skin irritation from the adhesive of the pads. If there are no signs of irritation, it can be reapplied for another 3-5 days. However, if you notice some irritation on the skin, please stop using it.

The patch also has a small red or green indicator light (depending on the model)—once it turns off, the patch is no longer effective.

Yes, the MCT patches work in a different way to medication to relieve pain. There shouldn’t be a problem to use both together. However, if you have any concerns or queries, we recommend that you consult your doctor.

Please do not use Painmaster directly over or near transdermal drug delivery patches.

Yes. There is no reason why you cannot use both togethere. However, you must make sure that you do not overlap both or that you put one next to the other. Always make sure that you leave some space between them.

No. According to the manufacturers of Painmaster MCT patches, these are contraindicated when Insulin Pumps are in use.

No. The manufacturers of Painmaster MCT patches specify that having a pacemaker is an absolute contraindication for the use of these patches.

The manufacturers report that there is no evidence for or against the use of Painmaster MCT patches when wearing metal implants. However, some people report discomfort or pain. If you experience either, we would recommend that you stop using the patches.

No. We do not recommend that you attach the pads directly where the pain is. It works better if you put each pad on either side where you feel the pain, or one above and the other one below.

Painmaster MCT patches are not designed to be used on the head, and you should never use them above the neck. If the headache is caused by a problem in the neck area, applying it on the back of the neck might be helpful. Only trying the patches in that area will help establish whether they will be helpful or not.

No. You shouldn’t use Painmaster on open wounds. These patches are not designed to treat or manage wounds. Please consult with your doctor about how to treat those wounds.

The manufacturers advise against using Painmaster MCT patches during pregnancy. Since these patches work at the cellular level, they may be acting on the foetus. Therefore you must not use Painmaster whilst pregnant.

The manufacturers of Painmaster MCT patches advise that children under the age of 12 should NEVER use the device.

Microcurrents are unlikely to cause any side effects. However, those who have a hypersensitive skin may experience skin reactions, such as rashes and soreness. If you have a sensitive skin or have had alergic reactions to plasters or bandages, please consult with your doctor before using the patches. If you experience any of those, we recommend that you stop using the device straight away.

You can usually apply the patches daily for a number of days. Their lifespan will vary. Each person is different, and the life of the patch will differ according to factors such as the cleanliness of the skin or the amount of oil, hair or sweat. It will also depend on how they are stored in between applications.

One of the patches has a small light (usually either red or green). If this light is on, the patch is working. Both patches must be in contact with the skin to transmit the therapeutic current. You can also test the battery by gripping each electrode with your fingers, as shown below, to check if the unit is still active.

No, Painmaster MCT patches do not contain latex.

The patches are splash proof, but not water proof. Please remove the patches before having a shower or bath, or going for a swim, etc. The electrodes themselves should never be allowed to get wet.

No, each Painmaster pack includes one set of patches. If used properly on clean skin, the patches usually last as long as the battery.

One side of the plastic has a special coating that helps extend the life of the pads by allowing them to be removed and reapplied more often. By using this plastic, you will improve the lifespan of the pads.

Make sure that you follow the instructions on which side to use. Sticking the pads on other surfaces when not in use may shorten their lifespan.

Painmaster MCT patches come with their own battery unit. It is sealed inside the main unit and you should not attempt to change it or manipulate it in any way, as you are likely to render the whole unit unusable.

Once the unit stops working, you will need to purchase a new Painmaster MCT device.

No, Painmaster MCT patches have been designed in a ways that the unit’s lifespan matches the battery life. The battery is built-in to maintain the correct current. Once the battery runs out, a new Painmaster will be needed.
